"Hold on tight!" These are the words that should send you barreling down the hallway with your arms stretched out, prepared to prevent an impending disaster, as you head towards the playroom where your older child had uttered these very words in a loud voice to his younger sibling.
Personally, as I heard these words, an immediate visual ensued--one which included both children, and a catapult. The whole thing was rather Wile E. Coyote-esque.
I bounced off of the dining room chair, then stopped myself dead in my tracks: "This time, I'll wait for a loud thud, then I'll go over there" I said to my wife. She looked at me with a nervous smile, I could tell she was ready to cringe at the expected sound of a crash. I shared with her my catapult visual, we both laughed, still a bit nervous. A small child walked out of the hallway and into the dining room. We breathed a sigh of relief and finished our dinner.
She's going to have to learn to fend for herself sometime, the earlier the better.
